The Winner of Quinceanera Essay Contest will use funds to Finance College Preparation and Education Expenses

Los Angeles, CA –August 03, 2006–On Sunday, July 30th El Clasificado, the nation’s largest free weekly Spanish-language classified publication, awarded a local junior high school student with a $5,000 college scholarship at its first “Quinceañera Expo and Fashion Show.” The winner of the essay contest, Cindy Manriquez also received a quinceañera dress and a variety of prizes for a total value of $5,700.

Taking advantage of the increased interest in the quinceañera celebration, El Clasificado hosted an event that not only gives families access to the resources needed to plan for the celebrations, but more importantly, to motivate young girls to include college in their plans for the future. It was a difficult task to narrow all participants down to six finalists. The winner was chosen based on a number of factors but principally on the ability to convey a genuine interest in attaining a college education.

“El Clasificado has a long-standing tradition of informing and educating our readers through our editorial,” said Martha de la Torre, founder and CEO of El Clasificado. “We wanted to extend our community service further through the Quinceanera event and scholarship contest, to show our readers that El Clasificado is committed to helping them make their dreams a reality.”

El Clasificado’s “Quinceañera Expo and Fashion Show” is a unique event exclusively featuring products and services that cater to the Hispanic tradition that is the quinceañera celebration. The entertainment concluded with a resplendent fashion show featuring quinceañera dresses as well as attire for the entire quince party.
