With an estimated 36.2 million eligible voters, Latinos represent the largest minority in the electorate for the first time in the United States, making outreach in across the nation more important than ever, especially in Pennsylvania cities and districts with high Hispanic populations.
Making up 5.3% of eligible voters across Pennsylvania, the Latino population has nearly tripled since 2000 and continues to expand. With this continued growth, getting the excitement necessary for collecting their votes has become a campaign necessity, even if it hasn’t been easy for many politicians. Especially, as more Hispanics are showing up as first time voters, it’s never been more important to capture this interest than now.
In no small part, this can be attributed to be a lack of voter outreach as 25% of all eligible Latino voters said they were never contacted by a political party or candidate.
